Seattle Police expected to read minds of disabled

According to Taser use on deaf man defended, Seattle Police officers fired a Taser on a deaf and mute man, leading one of the man's "guardians", Sacha Davis, to respond: "There was just too much, too much force."

Let's look at the facts:

• subject was deaf and mute
• the story made no mention of any mental disability
• subject was 56 years old
• when confronted by police, subject: approached officers holding sticks in hand; when hit by a Taser, pulled the Taser leads off his body; ran; pulled more Taser leads off his body; was finally shocked by a third Taser hit; threw gravel at and struggled with four officers before being subdued.

And the subject's friends reportedly said this:

It was a situation that might have been avoided, Ross' friends say, if police were able to recognize the disabled, learning even a basic sign such as the one asking a person's name.

Let me see if I get this straight: your "friend", who is mentally competent, fights with officers, and you think the officer need to learn his language? How did a 56-year-old man get to be 56 years old without being able to communicate to someone who can hear and speak?

What the hell?

I think subject's "friends" need to grab a clue.
